Dear all,
Well, here we are in summer enjoying warmth, if a little too much at times. Not one to complain, it’s good to see the sun, but the garden is looking shrivelled.
Firstly, a huge thank you to all who visited my December Pop-Up Exhibition in Tavistock. I had acquired large vacant premises in the main street and invited four very accomplished artists to join me. It was a tremendous success attracting a footfall of over 800 visitors in the short 14-day period.
Sadly, there are so many vacant properties in towns these days, mainly due to high business rate charges. The exhibition was very well received by the public who enthused over the paintings, many asking for a repeat, which was very encouraging. Many sales were made and it was a pleasure to meet so many interested people.
The weather is so unpredictable these days, but the brilliant days we have enjoyed this month have been a real treat.
Seascapes had rather taken over during the spring, (I love them so much), but I feel I need to do justice to the wild moorland landscapes, perhaps in Autumn, to do justice to their beauty.
One of my recently completed seascapes is “Winter Storm” with more subdued colours, which I hope convey the colours and movement of the sea in the colder season. Others include: –
- “Sunlit Cliffs” which conveys the richness of colour in our open seas and never ceases to amaze. The sunlight dancing on exposed cliffs gives a focus to the scene.
- “Pedn Vounder”, near Penzance is one of Cornwall’s lesser-known beaches, but one of the most beautiful, captured on a calm sunny day.
- “Friars Crag” is a study of Derwentwater with sunlight dancing on the trees.
- “Pentireglaze Haven” at New Polzeath is a place close to my heart, with many happy memories of super times spent with family. It is a very pretty bay at New Polzeath and at the time of painting the headland was full of pink flowers which I think adds interest to the picture.

With Drawn to the Valley fellow artists, I exhibited in our Spring Exhibition at Royal William Yard, Plymouth.
I will be involved in more exhibitions very shortly. Here are a few dates for the diary: –
- I will be exhibiting at “Drawn to the Valley” Summer Exhibition”, Wednesday 16th to Saturday 19th July. Entry free at The Butchers’ Hall, Tavistock.
- Open Studios this year will be from Saturday 23rd to Sunday 31st August, when I will be exhibiting at The Pavilion, The Sports Field, Lydford Village. Entry free.
At these events, all art works will be for sale.
Following their visit to the Royal William Yard exhibition, I was interviewed on air by Radio Devon about my work which was nice of them. The only drawback was that the interview took place at 6.15am!
Keep an eye on the website for new things to come.
Should you wish to comment or get in touch, there is a facility for you to do that on my website.
All best wishes,
Geoff
